Visit the medieval village of Lukomir on a day trip from Sarajevo. Learn about the medieval traditional lifestyles of the isolated Dinaric highlanders, observe nature on a hike, enjoy a picnic lunch, interact with villagers, and purchase local crafts.
Description:
Spend a full day exploring Lukomir and the highlands outside of Sarajevo on a trip that includes a village visit and a nature walk. Travel through the Bjelašnica hinterlands to Lukomir, Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village, located at 4,820 feet (1,469 meters) above sea level.At the edge of the village you will admire a rare view of Rakitnica Canyon and the neighboring Obalj and Visočica mountains. You will also be introduced to the villagers and their fascinating lifestyles, giving you an opportunity to find out firsthand from the villagers how they live in this beautiful but difficult environment.After a short walk through the village, hike along Obalj’s side to the Peruće Waterfall. Take some time to cool off and then enjoy a picnic lunch on the grass before returning to Gornji. Here, you will have the opportunity to see the local handicrafts made by the Dinaric people or purchase some to take home.
